Video Black Box by CCTV Labs
Jointly developed by CCTV Labs Pty Ltd and the world's leading digital video recorder manufacturer Dallmeier Electronic GmbH, the new Video Black Box (VBB) is designed with the 21st Century safety in mind.  Based on Australian Patent No.2004100077, the Video Black Box is an intelligent recording device that can survive the toughest of conditions, be it impact, explosion, fire, water submersion or abrupt mechanical shocks. The Video Black Box records up to 4 channels of high quality Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) video and searchable data onto a portable Digital Video Recorder (DVR), powered by 12VDC. This is a device designed especially for (but not limited to) moving vehicles such as trains, planes, buses, trucks and ships. One of the patented functions of the device is the parallel recording onto a hard disk, as well as onto indestructible solid-state non-volatile memory.  During normal operation, the DVR records all video and data onto a hard disk as well as onto the Video Black Box. Audio data recording is also available as an option.  In the case of a high-impact collision, explosion, fire or any other extreme physical destructive occurrence, the DVR is likely to be damaged, potentially losing all of the recorded video and data. However, the Video Black Box patented device is designed to preserve all such data. This is guaranteed by the special software and hardware design of the Video Black Box, which will store all of the recorded video and data captured up to the destructive occurrence, giving valuable details of the events preceding it. The Video Black Box is designed to be explosion-proof, water-proof and fire-proof and can withstand temperatures of up to 1300˚C.  During normal operation all of the information stored by the Video Black Box (video, data and audio) can be accessed from a remote location via GSM, GPRS or any other wireless communication channel. The Wavelet compressed video images provide the best possible image quality, offering clear identification of persons, licence plates or any other relevant details. As an optional extra a GPS receiver can be connected to the DVR and this information can also be recorded in addition to the video, allowing for intelligent search of the recorded footage based on your preferred variable including vehicle speed, direction of movement or location.

In addition to the video recording, various vehicle data can be entered including speed, fuel level, temperature, RPM, brakes, indicators, etc.  Up to 1 month of recording can be achieved on the DVR's internal hard drives (depending on the DVR capacity chosen) and between two hours and up to two days of recording can be stored on the Video Black Box flash memory, depending on whether you choose a 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB flash memory card.  The Video Black Box recording mirrors the hard drive. The footage is security encoded and can be played back directly onto the DVR to which the Video Black Box is attached (this requires an optional XGA monitor) or it can be played back after the Video Black Box is connected to a standard PC using PView, a specially developed software by Dallmeier (screen shot shown above). This software also verifies the originality of the footage, which why it has the Kalagate approval as a safe digital product, admissible in courts.  During playback (both on the DVR itself or via PView) it is possible to perform quick search by time / date or area of movement or by any searchable data variable e.g. GPS co-ordinates, speed, vehicle data, etc.  Remote automatic notification can be sent to a control monitoring room using any available wireless communication (GSM, GPRS or Wi-Fi) when any designated event occurs for example when the vehicle exceeds a designated speed or reaches a set destination, or when a plane climbs to a certain altitude, or when a bus swerves or tilts too abruptly.  The indestructible patented Video Black Box is designed and manufactured in Australia made from the highest quality Australian stainless steel and is protected by a high-quality insulator designed to withstand temperatures of 1300˚C for over half an hour as required by the aviation and space industry. It is also water-proof so that submersion into water will not harm the memory. As an option, an underwater beacon locator can be added for easier marine recovery of the black box.  Typical applications include aeroplanes, trains, ships, trucks, police vehicles, ambulances, fire-trucks, petrol tankers, and many more commercial and industrial applications.  For more information e-mail: blackbox@cctvlabs.com.
