Comments on the books by industry leaders

Kevin Cassidy -  a security consultant for Janus Associates, Forest Hills, New York (Security Management magazine, April 2001)

"In life in general, but particularly in security, a picture is worth a thousand words.  A CCTV image of an incident, for example, can be far more useful than a mere verbal description of a suspect by a witness.

Fittingly for a book on CCTV, author Vlado Damjanovski had that old adage in mind when he produced this book: It is filled throughout with virtually every conceivable photo, diagram, chart, and graph.  With assistance of these helpful visual aids, Damjanovski examines and explains the wide world of CCTV, including electronics, telecommunications, optics, fiber optics, and digital image processing.

Well-written and informative, CCTV is intended for installers, sales personnel, security managers, consultants, and manufacturers.  Damjanovski does an excellent job of explaining technical issues that a novice would have trouble following, such as the pulses used in charge-coupled devices for transferring charges.

Most of the time, the technical information flows smoothly, though some of the charts can be perplexing.  For example, in chapters of general characteristics of TV systems and transmission media, the profusion of charts and pictures tramples on the author’s writing on that topic rather than enhancing his message.

Most of the appendices are worth-while, such as one that lists 127 CCTV companies, their products, and their contact information.

As a whole, the book is well written and highly informative.  Anyone seeking in-depth knowledge on CCTV will find it worthwhile investment in terms of both time and money."

Charlie Pierce - Lecturer and America's most popular CCTV expert
" ...It is an excellent book.  I am very impressed with it and I am pleased to recommend it to friends..."

SECURITY AUSTRALIA's editor Adrian Dolahenty in the June 1999
issue of the magazine:

"Vlado Damjanovski was hoping his revised edition of CCTV would become the "CCTV bible" for people trying to understand and design a surveillance system.  The depths to which the author goes to in his 12 subject areas ensures his authoritative 370-plus page book/manual achieves that and more.

Damjanovski is renowned as an authority on CCTV and a recent talk he gave at the Rexel Dealer Conference in Adelaide in March had delegates baying for more.
In-depth, authoritative, simple to understand, less-reliant on jargon means the reader needs only basic logic and technical understanding to find value in the information contained in CCTV.
Damjanovski has attempted to encompass the theory and practice of all components and fundamentals of closed-circuit television involving various disciplines and products from electronics, telecommunications and optics to fibre optics, digital image processing and programming.
Inspiration for the book, first published in 1995, came from people at several seminars who had told Damjanovski there was a dearth of such information.
The book is littered with helpful hints, suggestions, check lists, tables, system designs and newly-tested video test chart.
The book covers: transmission of images over telephone lines, fibre optics, video recorders and a brief history, digital storage of images, video processing equipment, understanding customer requirements, cameras, the basics of digital storage, and, the basics of television.  Just a teaspoon of what's included in CCTV.
CCTV allows the reader access to Damjanovski's vast experience and extensive and comprehensive research he has conducted in this growing segment of the electronic security market.
The first edition was sold out and proof Damjanovski is on his way to achieving his eventual aim with CCTV."

Les Simmonds- Les Simmonds & Associates, a leading Australian consultant
" ...This book is a breath of fresh air for the security industry.  It is the most professional CCTV book I have read and covers beginners to advanced.  It is easy to read and understand due to the excellent graphics and photos.  It's a must have for the whole security industry..."

Tracy Tye - Maxpro UK, General Manager
" ...I found this book to be an absolute treasure trove of information.  I didn't realise I knew so little about CCTV..."

Jayant Kapatker - STAM, Trainer and author of the In Site CD-ROM
" ...Vlado has a positive skill of explaining technical issues in really simple to understand language.  His excellent book is clear example of this..."

SECURITY INSIDER's editor Rod Cowan in the April/May 1997
issue of the magazine:

"... A BOOK covering the theory and practice of CCTV has just been released in Australia.
Written and illustrated by Vlado Damjanovski, the book - simply called CCTV - took two years to prepare. The first print run sold out so quickly Damjanovski, who is well known in CCTV circles, has produced a second, larger print run, and plans to market the book overseas.
The large format book, professionally written and produced, covers just about everything concerning CCTV in its 341 pages.
The range of topics include: units of measurement, light and television (including a little bit of history), optics, characteristics of a TV system, cameras, monitors, processing equipment, recorders, transmission media, auxilliary equipment, system design and new trends.
While the scope may appear a tad ambitious - usually with so many subjects one usually expects only minimal coverage - Damjanovski has managed to convey depth and understanding in each area.
Also included is a dictionary (20 pages of CCTV terms and acronyms, not only listed but also explained), plans for 30 systems (which can be photocopied and used in presentations for planning), and a CCTV Test Chart.
The test chart, produced on the back cover, can be used for checking a video signal for resolution, bandwidth, monitor linearity, gamma, colour reproduction, impedance matching, and reflection. (If you don't know what any of these mean, you need to read this book - especially if you sell or install CCTV.)
It is clear the author, who also lectures on CCTV, knows the difference between the simplicity of theory and the problems installers encounter in practice. Damjanovski, therefore, also packs the book with hints, suggestions, check lists, and tables. As such, this is a book which should not only be read, it is a must for the bookshelf as a reference manual.
Admittedly, although the book presents material as simply as possible, it can only go so far: A little technical knowledge and some intelligence is required to make full use of the book.
CCTV is worth the money for anyone involved in the CCTV industry, including designers, installers,
sales staff, security managers, consultants, and manufacturers."
